Caroline lives in the Passyunk Square neighborhood of South Philadelphia, where she bought her first home (and garden) in February 2013. The two-story rowhouse sits on a lot that’s half house, half yard, footprint-wise. On April 1, once she thought the chance of the last frost was gone — disclaimer: this date wasn’t Farmer’s Almanac-approved — she began to plant. Transplants from her grandmother’s and cousin’s gardens in Rhode Island, starters from Lowe’s, and seeds from packets (and the pockets of another cousin, this one age 5) began the story of “how does her garden grow.” No contrarians here, just a former “black thumb” bent on redemption and gardening glory. Stay tuned throughout the seasons!
